| No experience or knowledge of soccer is necessary
Just complete the following:
- Attend a 16-hour Entry Level Referee course. This course is provided by the USSF and discusses the Laws of the Game. It is normally held at several locations in your area.
- Complete and pass a written test about the Laws of the Game. The test is comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions. The passing score is 75%.
- Complete a USSF registration form and certify that you have not been convicted of a felony.
- The Entry Level course will cost $25-$30. After passing the test, you will then register with the USSF for $25, paid by check to WRDA (WA. Referee Development Account).
Then you will receive:
- The Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) Law Book.
- The USSF Referee Administrative Handbook.
- The USSF Guide to Procedures for Referees, Assistant Referees, and Fourth Officials.
- The Washington State Youth Soccer Association Referees Handbook.
- A current USSF Referee badge.
Next you will:
- Be given information about games and assignors.
- Receive information regarding the Mentoring Program, which will assist you in a successful start in officiating.
- Purchase your uniform, and you are ready to officiate in one of the world's finest games - the game of soccer.
- Start at the local youth level and then be encouraged to officiate more competitive level games.
Annually
- You need to register every year to
remain certified as a USSF referee,
by taking the recertification test and completing 5 hours of continuing referee education.
- You will get a new USSF badge every year.
